The director has recently initiated a new animated short series entitled, Aagahi, which aims to inform and educate the women of Pakistan about their rights. She has posted a video a few days back that projected ” How to Register an FIR.” The video is a step to step explanation of getting a First Information Report (FIR) lodged.

The video goes on to ponder on the crimes that do not need a prior warrant to arrest the culprit. These crimes include murder, rape, robbery, abduction, domestic violence, and acid throwing. The video proceeds to depict the total procedure of an FIR lodging.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has just released the second episode of Aagahi today and it delineates domestic violence and how to identify different types of abuses such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, and even economic abuse.

The video sheds light on the fact that a woman is domestically abused behind closed doors. We normally don’t come to know about these sort of crimes but that doesn’t mean that they’re not happening. The video goes on to tell about the different versions of domestic abuses.

Another video has just released and it speaks at length about the ways to a woman can protect herself from an abuser, be it her husband or even a blood relative. The video exhibits a few steps including the filing of an FIR, seeking a protection order, visiting a medico-legal center at a hospital, or seeking refuge at a shelter if needed.

Aagahi is a public service campaign by Sharmeen’s SOC films produced to inform women in Pakistan about their legal rights. It is a seven month 2-3 minutes short stories project that will clarify legislation and explain how these provisions may be applied.
